Welcome and thank you for your interest in the Markesan United Methodist Church. We are a small, rural farming community in South Central Wisconsin at the south end of Big Green Lake. We enjoy Spirit filled worship and sharing the love of God.
Worship and Sunday School Information
Worship- Contemporary Worship
Sundays 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM
(A service of Praise and Worship lead by a praise team while meeting around tables with coffee and finger food. The Word is read and proclaimed informally.) - Traditional Worship

(A more traditional, formal worship style complete with liturgy, organ, choirs Scripture and morning message.)

- As the need arises this congregation teaches Discover Bible Studay along with a number of home Bible Study groups are also available.

A group gathers for prayer each week in the Prayer Room on Friday's at 11:30, but the room is availble whenever the church is open.

- We are always looking for talended individuals to share their talents with us in worship, particularly in the summer months when the Chancel Choir is not available.

Every week on Sunday
These men, women and youth run our sound board, projection, and recording equipment during all worship services. Services are recorded audibly on cassette tape for shut-ins and others requesting them.

This group of friendly folk welcome one and all to our worship services every Sunday morning, providing assistance with children, elderly, and those with handicapping conditions.

A wonderful group of men and women providing coffee, bars, cookies, cheese and crackers facilitating a time of fellowship following our 8:30 worship and during the Contemporary worship.
Choir

This choir for youth and adults rehearses on Wednesday evenings at 7:30-8:30 during the school year and normally leads at the 8:30 worship service on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month.

Youngsters of the church participate and help lead worship on the 4th Sundays of the month during the shcool year.
Praise Band

During the school year this group of praise and worship leaders rehearses on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 and leads worship at 10:15 on Sunday mornings.
Reaching Out in Mission
Habitat for Humanity
- Habitat for Humanity--Marquette, MI
- Every June for over twelve years this church has sent a team to build homes for H4H in Marquette
Prison Ministry
- Discover Bible Study
- Several classes of Disciple Bible Study are conducted by this congregation at Dodge, Waupun, and Oshkosh Correctional Institutions as well as some area jails.
Community Support / Volunteering

- Samaritan House
- A ministry of this congregation located in the downtown area providing gently used clothing and household goods open Thurs-Fri-Sat.

This group of women meets each Wednesday morning preparing blankets, shawls, quilts, pillows, etc. for various ministries.

- The congregation includes Portage and Fond du Lac pregnancy care centers in its outreach ministry.

- Pastor Yoder regularly leads Bible Study and worship at the Markesan Resident Home and Barrett House. Contact the church for further information.

- Pastor Yoder is trained int he Prepare/Enrich pre-marital/marriage counseling program. Please contact him directly through the church to arrange for any counseling or marriage planning.
What we offer
The men meet monthly for breakfast and we have an active Unit of the United Methodist Women. There are children and adult choirs as well as a praise team. We practice an open communion for all professing faith in Jesus Christ the first Sunday of every month.

What to expect when you visit
We offer both traditional and contemporary worship services at 8:30 and 10:30 (beginning 10 June 14, 2009) respectively each Sunday Morning with Sunday School through grade 6 at 9:30 during the school year. There are mid-week and Sunday morning Adult Bible studies at home and in the church as well as a very active prison ministry to area correctional institutions.

How we share our gifts
This is a particularly sharing community through their second mile giving which also runs Samaritan House, a used clothing and other goods store in downtown Markesan staffed and run entirely by volunteers which supports a great variety of local charitable enterprises. We support a number of missionaries and mission programs. The men of the church provide an appliance and furniture recycling service.
