| | Hurricane Katrina hit Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana Aug. 29, 2005, followed less than a month later, on Sept. 24, by Hurricane Rita, which struck Texas and Louisiana. United Methodist News Service writer Kathy L. Gilbert and photographer Mike DuBose traveled to the Gulf Coast as the one-year anniversary of Katrina approached to take a close-up look at the work volunteers have done to restore order to the chaos left behind by the storms. The series of stories and photos features an interactive coastal map pinpointing churches damaged and destroyed as well as churches rebuilt and restored. | | | |
